- Open settings on your homescreen.
- Go to iCloud.
- Enter your Apple ID and Password
- It will verify your account, agree to the terms for iCloud.
- Select the content you want to backup.
- Click on create backup.
- The backup automatically takes place when your iDevice is connected to Wi-Fi and is put on charging.
How to update iPhone or iPod to iOS 5 from iOS 4.x.x
For iOS 4 users, iTunes is required to update the device. Its is very simple to update your iPhone 5. Just follow these steps.
- Open iTunes. Connect your iDevice to your computer.
- iTunes will show the device connected.
- Click on the device and it will show you the option to update.
- Alternately you can right click the device name shown on your computer and click on check for updates.
- iTunes will ask you permission to update your device and download the software.
- After the software is downloaded it will automatically update your device.

For already jailbroken iOS devices the method to update the idevice is same, but you will loose the jailbreak once you update your device.
